Founded in 1983 by philosophy professor John L. Barger in Manchester, New Hampshire, Sophia Institute Press began by rescuing forgotten Catholic classics for modern readers. It has since grown into a major Catholic publisher and distributor, now also operating Sophia Institute for Teachers — a K–8 catechetical curriculum program launched in 2014 with over 250,000 students in more than 900 schools and 1,500 parishes.
