William H. Sadlier
Founded in 1832 by Irish immigrant brothers Denis and James Sadlier, William H. Sadlier is one of the oldest continuously family-owned publishers in the United States. After William H. Sadlier's death in 1877, his 26-year-old widow Annie petitioned the New York legislature to run the company in his name — a landmark of female leadership in American business. Six generations later, Sadlier remains a flagship publisher of Catholic religious education and K–12 academic curricula.
